I’m in a hotel room writing. It’s a sunny day in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We’ve been here for three weeks. Dennis doing Locum Tenons, we're off on a new adventure and we don't know exactly where it’s taking us. There I said it out loud.
Here’s what I know:
~In 1991 God fed Samantha and me with a never-ending loaf of Hillbilly Bread.
Yep, that white, red, and yellow Hillbilly Bread loaf was tucked in the corner next to the sink of my tiny kitchen. Every slice taken for granted as it was removed. Slice after slice. Week after week. Month after Month…. Wait! What?! I realized this wasn’t an ordinary loaf of bread.
Do you know the story of the widow, her son, and Elijah? He asked her to make him a cake to eat and she feared she wouldn’t have enough to feed herself and her son. She obeyed and: “she and Elijah and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.” 1 Kings 18:15-17 Oil/flour or Hillbilly Bread, same miracle, different era.
~ 2009 I witnessed a miracle in our marriage only God could do.
~ In May 2016 God made sure I was at my mom’s bedside for two days. I got to witness my mom seeing Jesus’s face for the first time. Laying with my mom as she entered heaven was a gift.
~Too many promises fulfilled to list. He is the God of promises.
So now, as Dennis and I search out what’s next, we trust. Trust because we remember. Trust because we have witnessed over and over God’s provision and care. Trust because we have had proof God is trustworthy.
Just like Sarah in the book of Hebrews 11:11, "She judged Him faithful who had promised."
A relationship of trust was developed as she stayed near to God. She watched Him continually do what He said He would do. Trust is proven.
